Wil je op 24 mei 2026 meedoen aan de 50ste Vogalonga in Venetië?
De Vogalonga (betekent ‘lange tocht’) is een 30 kilometer lang roei-evenement dat sinds 1974 elk jaar op Pinksterzondag wordt gehouden in Venetië. De route gaat door de lagune en door de oude stad over het Canal Grande en is begonnen als een protest tegen de vele vervuilende motorvaartuigen die de lagunestad dagelijks teisteren.

In 2019 deden er 2002 boten mee met >7500 roeiers. Van Willem 3 waren er 4 boten met 19 deelnemers. Het was een onvergetelijke ervaring!

Voorlopige aanmelding:
Om een idee te krijgen van het aantal ploegen dat mee wil doen vragen we je om je voorlopige aanmelding (bij voorkeur als ploeg, individueel mag ook) uiterlijk 12 oktober 2025 te sturen naar toercommissie@willem3.nl onder vermelding van:
‘Vogalonga 2026’. Plus:
(a) jullie namen
(b) jullie mobiele nummers
(c) jullie emailadressen
(d) jullie afroeiklassen
(e) jullie voorkeur voor een C*-boot of een wherry.
De inschrijving staat open voor leden van Willem 3.
Na aanmelding ontvangen jullie een bevestigingsmail met aanvullende informatie.

Informatie bijeenkomst en Definitieve aanmelding:
1. Kort na 12 oktober wordt er een informatiebijeenkomst gehouden voor de voorlopige Vogalonga deelnemers. De datum wordt nog bekend gemaakt.
2. Aan de hand daarvan heb je tot 30 oktober de gelegenheid om je aanmelding definitief te maken, of af te haken.
3. Daarna worden de ploegen en de boten ingedeeld.

Voor wie is de Vogalonga geschikt?
1. Je moet redelijk goed kunnen roeien (klasse S1 en St2) en een redelijk goede conditie hebben.
2. Het is aan te bevelen om tenminste 1x met je ploeg een langere afstand afgelegd te hebben.
3. Een bevoegde en geoefende Stuur per boot is verplicht.
4. Deelname aan de cursus ‘Roeien op stromend water’, elk voorjaar bij Nautilus Rotterdam, is een aanrader.
5. Verder is het handig als je in staat bent om te wisselen op het water.

Wat mag je verwachten?
1. Uit de groep van definitieve deelnemers wordt een Vogalonga comité gevormd, om de organisatie van de W3 Vogalonga reis op zich te nemen. De Toercommissie kan helpen met opstarten en ondersteuning.
2. Het Vogalonga comité regelt centraal:
a. Het botentransport naar Venetië vv (of, als dat lukt, de boothuur ter plekke);
b. Je aanmelding bij de organisatie van de Vogalonga;
c. Gezamenlijke avondmaaltijd, briefing en uitdelen van de rugnummers op 23 mei, en;
d. In principe je hotelovernachting (aankomst vrijdag middag, vertrek maandag ochtend), inclusief ontbijt en toeristenbelasting. Je mag ook je eigen overnachting regelen.
3. Je zorgt zelf voor je reis naar en van Venetië. Je eten en drinken tijdens je verblijf en de kosten van openbaar vervoer binnen Venetië.
4. Als W3 deelnemersgroep zorg je gezamenlijk voor het af- en opriggeren van de boten, het laden en lossen van de botenwagen.

De kosten: zijn op dit moment nog niet bekend. We zijn druk bezig met het verzamelen van de informatie. Nog even je geduld gevraagd.

Would you like to participate in the 50th Vogalonga in Venice on May 24th, 2026?
The Vogalonga (meaning “long journey”) is a 30-kilometer rowing tour held annually in Venice on Pentecost Sunday since 1974. The route winds through the lagoon and the old town along the Grand Canal and began as a protest against the many polluting motorboats that plague the lagoon city daily.

In 2019, 2,002 boats with over 7,500 rowers participated. On behalf of Willem 3, 4 boats with 19 participants participated. It was an unforgettable experience!

Provisional registration:
To get an idea of the number of teams that would like to participate, we ask that you send your preliminary registration (preferably as a team, but individually is also welcome) to toercommissie@willem3.nl no later than October 12th, 2025, with the subject line:
“Vogalonga 2026.” Also include:
(a) your names
(b) your mobile numbers
(c) your email addresses
(d) your rowing classes
(e) your preference for a C* boat or a wherry.
Registration is open to Willem 3 members.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with additional information.

Information meeting and final registration:
1. Shortly after October 12th, an information meeting will be held for the provisional Vogalonga participants. The date will be announced later.
2. Based on this information, you have until October 30th to finalize your registration or withdraw.
3. After that, the teams and boats will be assigned.

Whom is the Vogalonga suitable for?
1. You must be able to row reasonably well (class S1 and St2) and have a reasonably good physical condition.
2. It is recommended that you have rowed a longer distance with your team at least once.
3. A qualified and experienced coxswain is required.
4. Participation in the “Roeien op stromend water” course, held every spring at Nautilus Rotterdam, is highly recommended.
5. It is also helpful if you can change places on the water.

What can you expect?
1. A Vogalonga committee will be formed from the group of confirmed participants to organize the W3 Vogalonga trip. The Tour Committee can assist with the start-up and support.
2. The Vogalonga committee will centrally arrange:
a. Boat transport to and from Venice (or, if possible, boat rental on site);
b. Your registration with the Vogalonga organizers;
c. Joint dinner, briefing and handing out the bow numbers on May 23rd, and;
d. In principle, your hotel accommodation (arrival Friday afternoon, departure Monday morning), including breakfast and tourist tax. You are also welcome to arrange your own accommodation.
3. You will be responsible for your own travel to and from Venice, including food and drinks during your stay and public transportation costs within Venice.
4. As a W3 participant group, you will be responsible for rigging and unrigging the boats, and loading and unloading the boat trailer.

Costs: are not yet known. We’re still gathering information. Please be patient for now.
Please be aware that it will be a substantial amount; see points 2 a, b, c, and d, and point 3 under the heading above.

Een heerlijke dag om de Magnum te roeien,
Passeren we prachtige watertjes en een aantal koeien.
Traag bewegen wij ons voort,
Genietend van het landschap zoals het in een wherry hoort.

Molens, boerderijen en diverse woonboten,
Meerkoeten en futen wat hebben we van de omgeving genoten.
De vele kilometers trokken rustig aan ons voorbij,
Een plaspauze en een wissel maakte ons weer blij.

Met plezier roeien wij door de Hollandse pracht,
60km roeiend afleggen wie had dat nou van ons gedacht.
Zo nu en dan zongen we spontaan een lied,
Al kenden we het Willem III clublied niet.

Met veel gelach en vertier,
Maakten we onderweg een hoop plezier.
De walploeg hoorde ons al van verre komen,
Een prachtige roeidag als in onze dromen.

Dank aan de organisatie voor alle goede zorgen,
We dragen onze spierpijn met trots morgen!

Aan deze Magnum hebben 89 roeiers in 21 ploegen meegedaan.
Ze kwamen uit het hele land, er waren zelfs 2 ploegen uit het Franse Lille vertegenwoordigd.
De W3 Magnum staat elk jaar rond half of eind augustus op de kalender.

We hebben er 10 jaar op moeten wachten, maar nu kon het weer: het roeierssaluut op Sail 2025.
In totaal deden 100 boten uit het hele land mee. Wij mochten als Willlem III met 5 boten meevaren. Onze vereniging was ook gastheer voor 6 andere verenigingen die deels met eigen boten kwamen en deels boten van Willem III huurden. En dat alles moest vroeg het water op om bijtijds, namelijk om 9 uur, de IJhaven op te kunnen varen. Om 6:30 had Gerard daarom al de hekken open gezet voor ons en onze gasten. Het werd een prachtige tocht, aan het begin was het even dringen om met 100 boten een aantal nauwe bruggen te passeren, maar eenmaal op het IJ hadden we de ruimte. Iedereen schoof langs windjammers, de Groene Draeck en ander klein spul. Voortdurend even laten lopen voor weer wat foto’s natuurlijk. Op de terugweg zeiden we net tegen elkaar dat we geboft hadden met het weer, toen er een bui losbrak, maar bij Willem III was de sociëteit open. Alles werd in goede banen geleid door de ARB, die we daarvoor natuurlijk heel erg bedanken.

De zomertocht was dit jaar een tweedaagse tocht met een overnachting bij de Vinkeveense Plassen. Dit was mijn eerste toertocht, en hoewel de afstand in eerste instantie wat intimiderend leek, was het goed te doen in een W2x+ met vier man: je roeit maar de halve afstand.

Dank aan alle leden en deelnemers voor hun voorbereiding, hulp, het beschikbaar stellen van het huisje en natuurlijk de gezelligheid.

Zaterdag — 35km

De dag begon met een korte instructie, en hoewel een van de ploeggenoten iets langer van het bed had genoten dan gepland, vertrokken we tegelijkertijd met de andere ploegen. Na een korte lunch bij Michiel de Ruyter vertrokken we gezamenlijk naar de Pondskoekersluis, waar we na enig geschuif probleemloos uitkwamen.

De tweede helft van de dag werd wat zwaarder. De temperatuur ging verder omhoog en bij de oversteek op de Vinkeveense Plassen hadden we de wind en golven vol op de boeg. Door het afgezwakte tempo en een ongeoefende wissel op het water kon onze ploeg de voorsprong in de tocht — die geen wedstrijd is — helaas niet behouden.

Eenmaal aangekomen bij het huisje werd er genoten van een verfrissende duik, een lekker avondmaal en de nazit bij zonsondergang.

Zondag — 25km of 15km

Na een overwonnen patstelling bij de tweede sluis van de toer, vervolgde de tocht door pittoreske wateren. De vier ploegen (en een kajak) splitste zich in tweeën bij restaurant “de Voetangel”, afhankelijk van de gekozen afstand. Onze ploeg ging voor de lange route, en na een korte stop voor lunch inclusief familiebezoek in Abcoude, roeiden we op een lekker tempo terug naar de club.

Dat smaakt naar meer

De tocht is goed bevallen en dat smaakt naar meer! Ons ploegje heeft zich daarom ingeschreven voor de Magnum volgende maand. Zelfde afstand, maar nu in één dag, Spannend!

Review: W3 two-day Summer Tour (Vinkeveen), July 12 and 13, 2025

This year’s summer tour was a two-day rowing excursion, with a stopover at the Vinkeveense Plassen. This was my first tour, and although the distance seemed intimidating initially, it was doable in a W2x+ with a crew of four: you’re only rowing half the distance.

Thanks to all members and participants for their preparations, assistance, making available of the accommodation, and of course the good atmosphere.

Saturday — 35km

The day started with a short briefing, and although one of our crew members enjoyed their bed a bit longer than planned, we departed simultaneously with the other crews. After a short lunch at Michiel de Ruyter, we all headed to the Pondskoekersluis and, after some shuffling, exited the lock without issues.

The second half of the day became more strenuous. The temperature kept rising, and the wind and waves were hitting our bow head on when crossing the Vinkeveense Plassen. Unfortunately, we could not maintain our lead in the tour — which is not a race — due to the reduced tempo and an unpracticed crew rotation on water.

Once we arrived at the house, people enjoyed a refreshing dive, a tasty dinner, and a chitchat under the setting sun.

Sunday — 25km or 15km

After winning a stalemate at the second lock of the tour, the route continued along picturesque waters. The four crews (and a kayak) split in two at restaurant “de Voetangel”, depending on the distance chosen. Our crew chose the long route, and after a short lunch in Abcoude, including a family visit, we rowed back to the club at a steady pace.

Wanting more

The tour was a success and left us wanting more! So our crew decided to sign up for the Magnum next month. Same distance, but in just one day. Exciting!

De Kortste Nacht Tocht van ongeveer 30km rondom de Ronde Hoep polder wordt jaarlijks georganiseerd door de Samenwerkende Amsterdamse Roeiverenigingen (De Amstel, Amstelgeuzen, De Hoop, Poseidon, RIC en Willem 3). Sinds dit jaar kunnen we RV Michiel de Ruyter toevoegen aan deze gezellige samenwerking.

Ook dit jaar, op 28 juni, was deze tocht weer supergezellig en helemaal top georganiseerd. Je roeit de Amstel op, richting de Bullewijk en de Waver en keert terug via de Amstel.
Roeien over de Waver is een verstilling. Je hoort de vogels tweeten, de eenden snateren en als je geluk hebt zie je een roofvogel in duikvlucht boven het weiland. Door alle bochten in de rivier lijkt het net alsof je helemaal alleen roeit met je ploegje, en dat terwijl er 17 ploegboten meededen aan deze tocht.

Bij het picknickpunt halverwege werden we begroet door een hangbuikzwijntje. In het hok zat een geit lekker op een grasspriet te kauwen.
Aan brandstof voor de roeiers was gedacht. Er stonden lekkere versnaperingen klaar en onze dorst werd gelest.
Wat was het een mooi gezicht alle roeibootjes vakkundig aangemeerd door mensen van de Amstelgeuzen die de picknick ook weer uitstekend hadden georganiseerd.

Na de picknick ging het schemeren. Onderweg waren er prachtige luchten van de zonsondergang. Tussen het riet doorkijkend zag ik de stad Amsterdam in silhouet tegen het prachtige avondrode licht. En onze roei silhouetten geprojecteerd op het riet, vervagend in het donker.

Ons stuurtje had nog een mooie uitdaging op het laatste deel van de Waver: smalle passages, de avond die dan echt inviel en super lage bruggen.

Eenmaal terug op de Amstel hadden we zo nu en dan weer goed licht van een lantaarnpaal. De maan was schattig klein en de sterrenhemel konden we goed zien. Koud hadden we het niet, het was een warme nacht. Toch lokte het vooruitzicht van een heerlijk soepje bij Willem III.

We roeiden lekker door, deden net als vele anderen een laatste wissel in Ouderkerk. Bij terugkomst stonden Arthur en Vesna klaar op het vlot om te helpen met de boot, we werden ontvangen door Minko en Gerard die als duo achter de bar stonden. Berthie deelde haar soep rijkelijk uit en iedereen was lekker aan het smullen, natuurlijk met een hoop gezelligheid. Kortom het was weer een zeer geslaagde Kortste Nacht Tocht!!

Review: A very successful Shortest Night Tour, June 28th 2025!!

The Shortest Night Tour of approximately 30 km around the Ronde Hoep polder is organized annually by the Collaborative Amsterdam Rowing Clubs (De Amstel, Amstelgeuzen, De Hoop, Poseidon, RIC and Willem 3). Since this year we can add RV Michiel de Ruyter to this pleasant collaboration.

This year, on June 28th, the tour was again super fun and completely top organized. You row up the Amstel, towards the Bullewijk and the Waver and return via the Amstel.
Rowing on the Waver is a tranquility. You hear the birds tweeting, the ducks chattering and if you are lucky you see a bird of prey diving above the meadow. Because of all the bends in the river it seems as if you are rowing all alone with your team, even though 17 team boats participated in this tour.

At the picnic point halfway we were greeted by a pot-bellied pig. In the pen a goat was happily chewing on a blade of grass.
Fuel for the rowers had been thought of. Tasty snacks were ready and our thirst was quenched.
What a beautiful sight it was, all the rowing boats expertly moored by people from the Amstelgeuzen who had also organised the picnic excellently.

After the picnic it started to get dark. On the way you see beautiful sunset skies. Looking through the reeds I saw the city of Amsterdam in silhouette, against the beautiful evening red light. And our rowing silhouettes projected on the reeds, fading in the dark.

Our cox had another nice challenge on the last part of the Waver: narrow passages, the evening that really fell and super low bridges.

Once back on the Amstel we had good light from a lamppost every now and then. The moon was cutely small and we could see the starry sky well. We were not cold, it was a warm night. Still, the prospect of a delicious soup at Willem III was tempting.

We rowed on nicely, did a last change in Ouderkerk like many others. When we returned Arthur and Vesna were ready on the dock to help with the boats, we were welcomed by Minko and Gerard who were working as a duo behind the bar. Berthie generously shared her soup and everyone was enjoying themselves, of course with a lot of fun. In short, it was another very successful Shortest Night Tour!!

De Magnum is een prestatietocht van 58 km over Vecht en Amstel, waarbij twee keer onder begeleiding het Amsterdam Rijnkanaal wordt overgestoken. De tocht telt mee voor het KNRB marathon klassement.

We gaan iets bijzonders en avontuurlijks doen. Dit jaar wordt de W3 Zomertocht een tweedaags roeiweekend. Te houden op zaterdag 12 en zondag 13 juli 2025. Het wordt ouderwets gezellig!

Waar gaat deze prachtige tocht heen?
• Dag 1. De route gaat vanaf Willem 3 via de Amstel, Uithoorn, de Pondskoekersluis, Mijdrecht, Wilnis en Vinkeveen naar het ‘Huisje van Frans’ aan de Vinkeveense Noordplas, waar we gaan ontspannen, misschien wel zwemmen, pret maken, wandelen, of wat je maar leuk vindt. En natuurlijk lekker eten en overnachten.
• Dag 2. Vanaf het ‘Huisje van Frans’ gaan we via de Proostdijersluis en de Voetangel naar Abcoude. En via het Gein en de Gaasp weer terug naar Willem 3. Het is mogelijk om de terugweg met 10km in te korten.

De afstand:
Je hebt de hele dag de tijd om op je gemakje de route af te leggen.
Op dag 1 roeien we 35km. Op dag 2 roeien we 25km (of 15km). In totaal maximaal 50 à 60 km.
Ploegen van 4 personen in een W2x roeien per persoon slechts 50% van de afstand.
Dat is 17,5km op dag 1 en 12,5km op dag 2. De rest van het traject zit je op de stuurstoel.

3. Er zijn lage bruggen en smalle doorgangen op de route. Je moet bekend zijn met de commando’s ‘slippen’ en ‘doorvallen’ en deze goed kunnen uitvoeren.
4. Je moet in staat zijn om zelfstandig in- en uit de boot te stappen bij lastige oevers.

We are going to do something special and adventurous. This year, the W3 Summer Tour will be a two-day rowing weekend. To be held on Saturday July 12th and Sunday July 13th, 2025. It will be old-fashioned fun!

Where does this beautiful trip go to?
• Day 1. The route goes from Willem 3 via the Amstel, Uithoorn, the Pondskoekersluis, Mijdrecht, Wilnis and Vinkeveen to the ‘Huisje van Frans’ at the Vinkeveense Noordplas, where we will relax, maybe swim, have fun, walk, or whatever you like. And of course have a nice meal and stay overnight.
• Day 2. From the ‘Huisje van Frans’ we go via the Proostdijersluis and the Voetangel to Abcoude. And via the Gein and the Gaasp back to Willem 3. It is possible to shorten the return journey by 10 km.

The distance:
You have the whole day to complete the route at your leisure.
On day 1 we row 35 km. On day 2 we row 25 km (or 15 km). In total a maximum of 50 to 60 km.
Teams of 4 people in a W2x row only 50% of the distance each person.
That is 17.5 km on day 1 and 12.5 km on day 2. The rest of the route you sit in the helmsman’s seat.

5. Dinner.
6. Overnight stay.
7. Breakfast.
8. Lock fee (2 locks).

Costs:
Participation costs € 45.00 per person, the above-mentioned points are included.

Op zaterdagavond 27 september houden we weer onze prachtige Lichtjestocht. Omdat deze tocht ook op de landelijke toerkalender staat, is die altijd gauw volgeboekt. Heb je zin in een bijzondere roei ervaring?

Op zaterdagavond 28 juni 2025 organiseren de Samenwerkende Amsterdamse Roeiverenigingen (De Amstel, Amstelgeuzen, De Hoop, Poseidon, RIC en Willem 3), de jaarlijkse Kortste Nacht Tocht.

Programma:
19.30 uur: Verzamelen bij Willem 3, briefing
20.00 uur: Vertrek richting Ouderkerk
Je roeit een avond- en nachttocht van 29km rondom de Ronde Hoep-polder.
Halverwege de tocht is er een pauze met picknick op de oever van de Waver (sanitaire stop).
Even na 22.00 uur zie je de zonsondergang vanuit je bootje op de Waver.
Door het donker roei je over de Amstel langs Nes en Ouderkerk terug naar Willem 3.
Na afloop, gezellig napraten, soep en broodjes bij Willem 3.
Vanaf ±0.00 uur worden de eerste boten terug verwacht bij Willem 3.
De eindtijd inclusief de nazit zal rond 01.00 à 02.00 uur ’s nachts zijn.

Informatie:

Er zijn lage en/of smalle bruggen te verwachten op deze route, je moet kunnen slippen en doorvallen.

Invitation: Shortest Night Tour – Saturday June 28th 2025

Are you up for a special rowing experience?

On Saturday evening June 28th 2025, the Amsterdam Rowing Clubs (De Amstel, Amstelgeuzen, De Hoop, Poseidon, RIC and Willem 3) are organising the annual Shortest Night Tour.

Program:
7:30 pm: Gathering at Willem 3, briefing
8 pm: Departure towards Ouderkerk
You will row an evening and night trip of 29km around the Ronde Hoep polder.
Halfway through the trip there is a break with a picnic on the banks of the Waver (sanitary stop).
Shortly after 10 pm you will see the sunset from your boat on the Waver.
In the dark you will row over the Amstel past Nes and Ouderkerk back to Willem 3.
After-party, nice chat, soup and sandwiches at Willem 3.
The first boats are expected back at Willem 3 from approximately 00:00.
The end time including the after-party will be around 01:00 to 02:00 am at night.

On 11th of May, the Lentetocht (Geintocht) took place. This was a 29 km adventure with a sunny lunch break in ‘Abbey Abcoude’, and what a day it was!

For me, it all began when Simone posted in the WhatsApp group asking if anyone wanted to form a team. I jumped at the chance! Soon, our crew came together: Simone, Berk, Marianne, and me. On the day of the tour, we gathered at the club and hit the water after the captains’ briefing and prepped the boats. We were with a cheerful fleet of C4*, C3* and wherries, total 33 people.

Marianne started as stuur, Simone as captain, and Berk rowing — while I enjoyed the “princess passenger” spot for a bit before we rotated. The route was full of greenery and charm, taking us through Diemen, Gaasp, Driemond, Gein, and finally to Abcoude. The narrow canals and low bridges gave us a great chance to practice slippen and doorvallen.

The tour was super well organized, with clear route instructions and fun facts sprinkled along the way. In Abcoude, Vesna, Maaike, and Berthie greeted us with warm smiles and helped us settle in for a relaxed lunch break where the whole group got to mingle and recharge.

After the break, we headed back via the scenic route through Ouderkerk. We returned to the club full of good vibes, tan lines, and fun memories. We were tired but glowing from the sun and joy as we wrapped up the day with snacks, drinks on the terrace.

Huge thanks to the organizing team and all the lovely rowers. Can’t wait to join the next one! 😊
