Gents geroei

Deze alliteratie vond in het weekeind van 9/10 mei plaats. Met een overvol bepakte en behangen botenwagen zijn alle jeugd en wedstrijd junioren roeiers naar de camping in Gent verhuisd om veel lol te maken. Met alle roeiers samen zijn de bootjes supersnel opgeriggerd, hier en daar zelfs met levende schragen. Na dit zware werk kon er een lekker potje geroeid worden in veel verschillende samenstellingen.
Onze jeugd toppers knalden iedere keer 1000m over de baan, de wedstrijd junioren hebben allemaal net iets meer dan 2000m gevaren. Echt waar en hoe dit zit, tja…. 😊. De heats vlogen ons om de oren die ieder een wedstrijd op zich waren. Per nummer werd de einduitslag bepaald op basis van alle geroeide tijden in de heats. Vermeldenswaard is dat Loïs van Dis beide dagen het meisjes U19 veld wist te winnen in de skiff. Een hele knappe prestatie in dit internationale veld. Een andere topprestatie kwam van de begeleiders van de jeugdroeiers: met vijf ouders negen skiffs op de baan leggen in 15 minuten! En last but not least, onze jongste wedstrijdroeiers Veerle Booij en Lynn Fontein hebben samen geblikt.
Bij alle wedstrijden zijn de Willem 3’ ers hard aangemoedigd door elkaar, rennend langs de baan, vanuit de fijne tent, maar altijd met veel lawaai. Van al dit gedoe krijg je trek, maar Sue had weer voor een heerlijke BBQ gezorgd, echt geweldig.
Na een (hier en daar) korte nacht waren de wedstrijden op zondag pittig mede door de harde tegenwind. Maar niet getreurd, er is weer hard gestreden.
Na deze inspanningen zijn alle bootjes in sneltreinvaart op de botenwagen gepuzzeld en kon Yuri rustig naar Amsterdam rijden.
Het was weer heerlijk dat Gentse geroei.

Gents geroei

This alliteration took place on the weekend of May 9/10. With a fully packed and decorated boat trailer, all the youth and competitive junior rowers moved to the campsite in Ghent to have a lot of fun. The boats were rigged up super fast with all the rowers together, here and there even using human trestles. After this hard work, a great rowing session could be enjoyed in many different combinations.

Our youth stars blasted across the course for 1000m every time, while the competitive juniors all rowed just over 2000m. It’s true, and as for how that works, well… 😊. The heats flew by, each being a race in itself. For each event, the final result was determined based on all the times rowed in the heats. It is worth mentioning that Loïs van Dis managed to win the girls’ U19 field in the single scull on both days. A very impressive performance in this international field. Another top performance came from the youth rowers’ supervisors: getting nine skiffs onto the course in 15 minutes with just five parents! And last but not least, our youngest competitive rowers Veerle Booij and Lynn Fontein won a medal together.
At all the races, the Willem 3 members cheered each other on loudly, running along the course from the nice tent, but always with a lot of noise. All this commotion makes you hungry, but Sue had once again arranged a delicious BBQ—truly amazing.
After a (somewhat) short night, the races on Sunday were tough, partly due to the strong headwind. But don’t worry, they fought hard again.
After these efforts, all the boats were puzzled onto the boat trailer at lightning speed, and Yuri could drive to Amsterdam in peace.
It was wonderful to experience that Ghent rowing again.

De derde Regiowedstrijd van 2026 wordt georganiseerd door Michiel de Ruyter in Uithoorn en vindt plaats op zaterdag 13 juni.

The third Regional Competition of 2026 is being organised by Michiel de Ruyter in Uithoorn and will take place on Saturday June 13th.

Location: Amsteldijk Zuid 253, 1423 BZ Uithoorn.

Programme*:
1 pm Welcome, registration
1:25 pm Explanation of course & rules
1:40 pm Boats to the water, first teams to board
2 pm Start of races
around 4:30 pm Announcement of winners, prize-giving.

The race course*:
The length of the race course is 500 metres.
Race format: Each team rows the course twice, side-by-side (inner and outer lanes).

Target group: novice and recreational rowers with S1/St2 certification who would like to try their hand at competitive rowing.

What do you need to do?
• Form a team for your preferred boat type (C2x+, C4x+ or 4x+).
• Your team can consist of women, men or a mixed group. (Mixed teams must be at least 50% women).
• It’s all about having fun during training and at the races.
• You’ll be competing against teams from the Amsterdam region and surrounding areas.

Will you be joining in? It could well be your stepping stone to bigger races such as the Novembervieren, the Head of the River and the Heineken Roeivierkamp.

Afgelopen 3 weekenden werden de openingsklassiekers van het roeiseizoen gehouden met de Head of the River Amstel,de Heineken Roeivierkamp en de Jeugd- en Tweehead en Skiffhead. Alle drie de weekenden was het goed weer maar op de zondagochtend van de Head of the River was er helaas hardnekkig mist waardoor het te gevaarlijk was om het 1e blok door te laten gaan. In de middag was de mist opgetrokken en konden we genieten van onder andere het hoofdnummer ME 8+ met de 2 Deutschland-Achter van Mark Emke. Na de introductie van de tribune op de landtong vorig jaar was dit jaar een drone squad de novitiet bij de Head die fantastische beelden hebben gemaakt. Je kan deze hier terug kijken.

Op de Heineken Roeivierkamp was het weer een gezellige drukte op Willem III waarbij de blok wisselingen met inkomende en uitgaande ploegen altijd tot chaotische taferelen leidt op onze vlotten.

Onze jeugd en junioren deden en masse mee aan de Jeugdhead, veelal in 4* maar ook in 2x’s. Op de Tweehead waren het onze mannen 2x’s die er met de winst vandoor gingen in zowel het Senioren als in het Master veld. De master 2x wist zelf ondanks een aanvaring heel knap een minuut voor de rest van het veld te finishen. Op de Skiffhead waren het Marijke Zeekant en Loïs van Dis die de winst op eisden. Marijke Zeekant werd als Master H zelfs heel knap overal 7e in het Mastersveld en Loïs van Dis prologeerde haar titel dit jaar heel overtuigend met 1 minuut voorsprong op de rest van het veld.

Dit zijn de winnende Willem III ploegen, gefeliciteerd allemaal.

Looking back: Successful spring races

Over the past three weekends, the opening classics of the rowing season were held: the Head of the River Amstel, the Heineken Rowing Quadrathlon, and the Youth-, Double-, and Skiffhead. The weather was good all three weekends, but unfortunately, on the Sunday morning of the Head of the River, there was persistent fog, making it too dangerous to start the first block. By the afternoon, the fog had lifted, and we were able to enjoy, among other things, the main event, the Men’s Elite 8+, with the Deutschland-Achter 2 coached by Mark Emke. Following the introduction of the grandstand on the peninsula last year, a drone squad was this years novelty at the Head, capturing fantastic footage. You can watch it back here.

At the Heineken Rowing Quadrathlon, it was once again a lively atmosphere at Willem III, where the block changes involving incoming and outgoing crews always lead to chaotic scenes on our pontoons. Our youth and juniors participated en masse in the Youth Head, mostly in 4* but also in 2x. At the Twohead, it was our men’s 2x that took the win in both the Senior and Master fields. Despite a collision, the Master 2x managed to finish a minute ahead of the rest of the field in a very impressive manner. At the Skiffhead, it was Marijke Zeekant and Loïs van Dis who claimed the victory. Marijke Zeekant, as a Master H, even achieved a very impressive 7th place overall in the Master field, and Loïs van Dis defended her title this year very convincingly with a 1-minute lead over the rest of the field.

Komend weekend (7 en 8 maart) en de twee weekenden daarna vinden er drie belangrijke roeiwedstrijden plaats op de Amstel.

Tijdens deze wedstrijden zijn er vaarverboden van kracht.

Het gaat om de volgende wedstrijden en data:

● Zaterdag 7 en zondag 8 maart de Head of the River Amstel
● Zaterdag 14 en zondag 15 maart de Heineken Roeivierkamp
● Zaterdag 21 en zondag 22 maart de Jeugd- & Tweehead en Skiffhead

Vaarverboden:

Tijdens het weekend van de Head of the River Amstel geldt een vaarverbod op zaterdag 7 maart 11:00 – 18:00 en op zondag 8 maart zonsopgang – 16:30.

Tijdens het weekend van de Heineken Roeivierkamp geldt een vaarverbod op beide dagen 14 en 15 maart zonsopgang tot zonsondergang.

Tijdens het weekend van de Jeugd- & Tweehead en Skiffhead geldt een vaarverbod op zaterdag 21 maart 10:00 – 17:30 en op zondag 23 maart zonsopgang – 17:30.

W3TC tijdens Head niet beschikbaar

Tijdens het weekend van van de Head of the River  Amstel zal het Willem III Trainingscentrum (W3TC) worden gebruikt als Head Cafe voor alle vrijwilligers. Hierdoor is het W3TC vanaf vrijdag 6 maart 12:00 t/m zondagavond 8 maart NIET beschikbaar voor trainingen. De maandagochtend indoor training van 9 maart na de Head gaat wel gewoon door.

Verkeersstremming en Parkeerverbod:

Tijdens de eerste twee weekenden (Head en H4K) wordt de Jan Vroegopsingel op zaterdag en zondag overdag gestremd voor doorgaand verkeer.

Ook zal er die weekenden van vrijdag 7:00 t/m zondag 20:00 een algeheel  parkeerverbod van kracht zijn op zowel Willem III als op de Jan Vroegopsingel van de Utrechtsebrug t/m de Volkstuinen. Kom zoveel mogelijk op de Fiets of met het OV. Parkeren kun je het beste doen aan de Joan Muyskenweg.

Rowing bans during Head, Heineken, Skiff- Youth- & Two Head

This coming weekend (March 7 and 8) and the two following weekends, three important rowing competitions will take place on the Amstel River.

Rowing bans are in effect during these competitions.

These competitions and dates are as follows:

● Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8: The Head of the River Amstel
● Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15: The Heineken Roeivierkamp
● Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22: The Jeugd- & Tweehead and Skiffhead

Rowing bans:

During the Head of the River Amstel weekend, a rowing ban is in effect on Saturday, March 7, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on Sunday, March 8, from sunrise to 4:30 PM.

During the Heineken Roeivierkamp weekend, a rowing ban is in effect on both days, March 14 and 15, from sunrise to sunset.

During the weekend of the Youth & Tweehead and Skiffhead, a rowing ban will be in effect on Saturday, March 21, from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and on Sunday, March 23, from sunrise to 5:30 PM.

W3TC unavailable during Head

During the weekend of the Head of the River Amstel, the Willem III Training Center (W3TC) will be used as the Head Cafe for all volunteers. Therefore, the W3TC will NOT be available for training from Friday, March 6, at 12:00 PM, until Sunday evening, March 8. The Monday morning indoor training session on March 9, after the Head, will continue as usual.

Traffic closures and parking ban:

During the first two weekends (Head and H4K), the Jan Vroegopsingel will be closed to through traffic on Saturday and Sunday during the day.

There will also be a general parking ban in effect on those weekends from Friday 7:00 AM to Sunday 8:00 PM on both Willem III and on Jan Vroegopsingel from Utrechtsebrug to the Volkstuinen. Please come by bike or public transport as much as possible. The best place to park is Joan Muyskenweg.

• Finishen tussen de 2e rode boei en dukdalf voor de haven van RIC

The first regional competition of 2026 is being organized by RIC and will take place on Saturday, April 11th.

Address: Korte Ouderkerkerdijk 32, 1096 AC Amsterdam.

Program:
Reception from 1:00 p.m.
Competitions from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Followed by the announcement of the winners, award ceremony, and drinks!

Race course:
• The length of the course is approximately 600 metres.
• The start is under the Utrecht bridge in the direction of RIC.
• The boats start one by one, with a short interval between them.
• Keep the red buoys on your starboard side.
• Round the THIRD RED BUOY as quickly as possible, and then
• Finish between the 2nd red buoy and the dolphin in front of the RIC harbour.
• See the course map above.

Target group: Recreational rowers and beginners with S1 certification who enjoy competitive rowing.

How does it work?
• Form a team for your desired boat type (C2x+, C4x+ or 4x+).
• Your team can consist of women, men or a mix. (A mixed team must consist of at least 50% women).

Heb je ook zin om eens een roeiwedstrijd te proberen? Doe dan gezellig mee aan de Regiowedstrijden!

Voor recreatieve roeiers en beginners vanaf S1 bevoegdheid worden dit jaar weer de regiowedstrijden georganiseerd door de samenwerkende Amsterdamse roeiverenigingen Amstelgeuzen, De Amstel, De Hoop, Michiel de Ruyter (Uithoorn), Poseidon, RIC en Willem 3. De wedstrijden hebben vriendschappelijk karakter en zijn bedoeld voor roeiers die het leuk vinden eens een wedstrijd te roeien. Het gaat vooral om het plezier! In elke categorie krijgt de winnende ploeg een taart, en bij de finale een blik.

Leden van burgerroeiverenigingen in de Amsterdamse regio van Haarlem tot Muiden en van Zaandam tot Hilversum zijn van harte welkom om mee te doen.

Data en locaties

#1/5 Zaterdag 11 april 2026 bij RIC
De wedstrijdbaan is ongeveer 600 meter lang. De ploegen starten één voor één in een time trial. Onderdeel van de wedstrijdbaan is een keerboei waar je zo snel mogelijk moet ronden.

#2/5 Zaterdag 9 mei 2026 bij Poseidon, georganiseerd door Poseidon en Willem 3
De wedstrijdbaan is ongeveer 400 meter lang en wordt boord aan boord geroeid.

#3/5 Zaterdag 13 juni 2026 bij Michiel de Ruyter in Uithoorn
De wedstrijdbaan is ongeveer 500 meter lang en wordt boord aan boord geroeid.

#4/5 Zaterdag 12 september 2026 bij De Amstel
De wedstrijdbaan is ongeveer 800 meter lang. De ploegen starten één voor één met 30 seconden ertussen.

#5/5 Zaterdag 17 oktober 2026 Regio finalewedstrijd op de Bosbaan, georganiseerd door De Hoop en Amstelgeuzen.
De wedstrijdbaan is 500 meter lang en wordt boord aan boord geroeid.

Bij elke wedstrijd roeien de ploegen het parcours twee keer. Er wordt van boot en indien van toepassing van baan gewisseld. De beschrijvingen van de wedstrijdbaan zijn onder voorbehoud van wijzigingen. Alle wedstrijden vinden plaats in de middag.

Aanmelden
Je kunt je als Willem 3 team uiterlijk 1 week vooraf voor elke wedstrijd aanmelden via regioroeien@willem3.nl. Aanmelden als individuele W3 roeier mag ook, dan proberen we je te koppelen aan andere individuele deelnemers. De inschrijving moet voor elke wedstrijd opnieuw worden gedaan. Je mag aan één, meerdere of alle wedstrijden meedoen. De kosten voor de wedstrijden zijn 5,- euro per roeier.

Voorbereiden
• Vorm een ploegje voor je gewenste boottype (C2x+, C4x+ of 4x+).
• Je team kan bestaan uit dames, heren of mix.
• Verzin een leuke ploegnaam voor je team.
• Ga lekker trainen, je kunt altijd advies vragen bij de instructeurs van Willem 3. En bij oud-deelnemers van de regiowedstrijden. Zij weten als geen ander waar je op moet letten en hoe leuk het is om mee te doen.
• Een bevoegde en geoefende stuur is verplicht.

Meedoen betekent
• Veel roeiplezier, bij de voorbereiding en tijdens de wedstrijd.
• In competitie roeien, je krachten meten met gelijken.
• Een spannende finale wedstrijd op de Bosbaan.

Regional competitions Calendar 2026

Would you like to try rowing competitions? Then join in the fun at the Regional Competitions!

For recreational rowers and beginners with S1 certification, the regional competitions are being organised again this year by the Amsterdam rowing clubs Amstelgeuzen, De Amstel, De Hoop, Michiel de Ruyter (Uithoorn), Poseidon, RIC and Willem 3. The races are friendly in nature and are intended for rowers who would like to try their hand at competitive rowing. It’s all about having fun! In each category, the winning team will receive a cake, and in the final, a medal.

Members of rowing clubs in the Amsterdam region from Haarlem to Muiden and from Zaandam to Hilversum are welcome to participate.

Dates and locations

#1/5 Saturday, April 11th 2026 at RIC
The race course is approximately 600 metres long. The teams start one by one in a time trial. Part of the race course is a turning buoy that you have to round as quickly as possible.

#2/5 Saturday, May 9th 2026 at Poseidon, organised by Poseidon and Willem 3
The race course is approximately 400 metres long and is rowed side by side.

#3/5 Saturday, June 13th 2026 at Michiel de Ruyter in Uithoorn
The race course is approximately 500 metres long and is rowed side by side.

#4/5 Saturday, September 12th 2026 at De Amstel
The race course is approximately 800 metres long. The teams start one by one with 30 seconds between them.

#5/5 Saturday, October 17th 2026 Regional final race at the Bosbaan, organised by De Hoop and Amstelgeuzen.
The race course is 500 metres long and is rowed side by side.

In each race, the teams row the course twice. They change boats and, if applicable, lanes. The descriptions of the race course are subject to change. All races take place in the afternoon.

Registration
As a Willem 3 team, you can register no later than 1 week before each race via regioroeien@willem3.nl. You can also register as an individual W3 rower, in which case we will try to pair you with other individual participants. You must re-register for each race. You may participate in one, several or all races. The cost for the races is €5 per rower.

Preparation
• Form a team for your desired boat type (C2x+, C4x+ or 4x+).
• Your team can consist of women, men or a mix.
• Come up with a fun team name for your team.
• Get training, you can always ask the instructors at Willem 3 for advice. And former participants in regional competitions. They know better than anyone what to look out for and how much fun it is to participate.
• A qualified and experienced coxswain is mandatory.

Participating means
• Lots of rowing fun, both during preparation and during the competition.
• Competing in rowing, measuring your strength against your peers.
• An exciting final competition on the Bosbaan.

Youth ergometer competitions at W3: Sunday morning, February 15

This coming Sunday, February 15, youth ergometer competitions will be held at Willem III from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Training in the W3TC (both KT and Ergo) will NOT be permitted during these competitions.

Iedereen die geen wedstrijdbijdrage heeft betaald zal na de wedstrijd via incasso worden belast. De kosten zijn 35 euro per 1x en 45 euro per 2-/2x. De inschrijving sluit 17 maart 2026. De botentoewijzing zal begin februari 2026 zijn.

Zorg ervoor dat je op tijd een wedstrijd licentie heeft. Deze kan je aanvragen via Wedstrijdlicentie | KNRB.

Register for Skiffhead & Youth- and Pairs Head

Dear Willem III Rowers and Coaches,

The Skiffhead & Youth- and Pairs Head will be held on March 21-22, 2026. If you would like to participate, please complete this Google Form. All information about the race can be found at https://www.skiffhead.nl/

Anyone who has not paid a yearly competition fee will be charged by direct debit after the race. The registration fee is €35 per single row and €45 per 2-/2x. Registration closes on March 17, 2026. Boat allocation will take place in early February 2026.

Please ensure you have a competition license in time. You can apply for one via Competition License | KNRB.

De Head of the River Amstel wordt gehouden op 7-8 maart 2026 en de Heineken Roeivierkamp op 14-15 maart 2026. Alle informatie over de wedstrijden kan je vinden op  Head of the River Amstel en Heineken Roeivierkamp.

De velden en wedstrijd details voor 2026 zijn nog niet bekend maar kan je tzt hier en hier vinden:

Omdat het elk jaar een uitdaging is om voor iedereen boten te regelen, verzoeken we jullie om nu al dit google formulier in te vullen (graag 1 per ploeg).

Eventuele latere wijzigingen kunnen t/m 27 februari 2026 worden verwerkt (graag doorgeven per mail).

Iedereen die geen wedstrijdbijdrage heeft betaald zal het inschrijfgeld zelf moeten betalen.

De kosten voor de Head of the River Amstel en Heineken Roeivierkamp zijn nog niet bekend maar zullen hopelijk niet veel veranderen tov 2025. In 2025 waren de kosten voor de Head of the River Amstel 90 euro per 4+/4* en 122,50 euro per 8+/8* . De kosten in 2025 voor de Heineken Roeivierkamp waren 184,50 euro per 4+/4* en 229,50 euro per 8+.

Zorg ervoor dat alle roeiers van je ploeg op tijd  een wedstrijd licentie hebben.

Register for Head and Heineken 2026

Dear coaches, team captains, and rowers,

The Head of the River Amstel will be held on March 7-8, 2026, and the Heineken Roeivierkamp on March 14-15, 2026. All information about the races can be found on Head of the River Amstel and Heineken Roeivierkamp.

The fields and race details for 2026 are not yet published, but you can find them here and here in due course:

Because it’s a challenge every year to arrange boats for everyone, we ask you to complete this google form now (one per team, please).

Any subsequent changes can be processed until February 27, 2026 (please notify us by email).

Anyone who has not paid a yearly race fee will have to pay the entry fee themselves.

The costs for the Head of the River Amstel and Heineken Roeivierkamp are not yet published, but hopefully they won’t change much compared to 2025. In 2025, the costs for the Head of the River Amstel were €90 per 4+/4* row and €122.50 per 8+/8* row. The costs for the Heineken Roeivierkamp in 2025 were €184.50 per 4+/4* row and €229.50 per 8+ row.

Make sure all rowers in your crew have a race license in time.
