NK junioren skiff en 2- in een WAB jasje

Het is velen misschien ontgaan, maar afgelopen 2 weekeinden is het 2km seizoen begonnen, maar dan net wat anders dan andere jaren. Niet op de vertrouwde Bosbaan vanwege de WK verbouwingswerkzaamheden maar op de Willem Alexander Baan (WAB) bij Rotterdam. Op zich een prachtige baan maar net wat dicht bij de kust en voor ons verwende Amsterdammers wat ver weg.
Tijdens de Bosbaan Voorjaarsregatta moesten de junioren zich kwalificeren voor het NK van het weekeind erna. Hier is een grote groep in geslaagd. Ze hebben de meewind, golven en schuimkoppen overwonnen. De week erna zijn tijdens de trainingen op de Bosbaan de puntjes op de i gezet.
Afgelopen weekeind was het zover, kijken of je tijdens het NK toernooi het beste uit jezelf kon halen met de uitdaging om genoeg energie over te houden voor de finales op zondag. Dit is nog een heel karwei want het toernooi werkt via kwart- en halve finales naar DE finales toe. De weersomstandigheden waren qua golven iets beter maar in de loop van het weekeind draaide de wind naar een fikse bries tegen. Veel waar voor je geld.
Er zijn door alle roeiers goede tot hele goede prestaties neergezet met als medaille winnaars:
– Martijn Aris brons in de jongens 18 skiff
– Lois van Dis zilver in de meisjes 18 skiff
– Meintje Scheltinga en Eva van Arman goud in de meisjes 18 2-
Gefeliciteerd voor hen en zeker ook voor alle andere Willem III junioren die zich fantastisch geweerd hebben in het Nederlandse junioren geweld

National Junior Championships Single Scull and Pair in a WAB guise

It may have escaped many people’s attention, but the 2km season started over the past two weekends, albeit slightly differently than in other years. Not at the familiar Bosbaan due to World Championship renovation work, but at the Willem Alexander Baan (WAB) near Rotterdam. A beautiful course in itself, but just a bit too close to the coast and a bit too far away for us spoiled Amsterdammers.

During the Bosbaan Spring Regatta, the juniors had to qualify for the National Championships the following weekend. A large group succeeded in doing so. They conquered the tailwind, waves, and whitecaps. The following week, the finishing touches were put on during training sessions at the Bosbaan.
Last weekend, the moment arrived: seeing if you could get the best out of yourself during the National Championship tournament, with the challenge of having enough energy left for the finals on Sunday. This is quite a task, as the tournament progresses through quarter-finals and semi-finals to THE finals. The weather conditions were slightly better in terms of waves, but over the course of the weekend, the wind turned into a strong headwind. Great value for money. All rowers delivered good to very good performances, with the medal winners being:

– Martijn Aris bronze in the boys’ 18 single scull
– Lois van Dis silver in the girls’ 18 single scull
– Meintje Scheltinga and Eva van Arman gold in the girls’ 18 pair
