Ernstige hinder op de Amstel ivm Skøll Cup

Op zaterdag 25 april en zondag 26 april (dat is aankomend weekend al!) wordt er op de Amstel geroeid om de Skøll Cup. Dit is een grote competitie wedstrijd die vergelijkbaar is qua drukte met de Head of the River en Heineken Roeivierkamp. Normaal wordt deze wedstrijd op de Bosbaan gehouden maar wegens de verbouwing voor het WK roeien wordt er dit jaar eenmalig uitgeweken naar de Amstel. De start is bij Het Kalfje en de finish is voor Skøll.

De Skøll Cup wedstrijden zijn van 9.00 uur tot ongeveer 17.30 uur. Dit betekent ernstige hinder tussen de Utrechtsebrug en Het Kalfje, onder andere omdat de races tegen de roeirichting in worden gehouden. Er is geen roeiverbod maar het bestuur ONTRAADT om dit weekend richting Ouderkerk te roeien. Er is één roeistrook beschikbaar die moet worden gedeeld met alle roeiers en pleziervaart. Ga bij jezelf te rade of je werkelijk vaardig en snel genoeg bent om in dergelijke omstandigheden te roeien. We gaan ervan uit dat je zelf kunt inschatten of je genoeg stuur-en roeiervaring hebt om in grote drukte tussen wedstrijdroeiers en plezierboten door te varen.  We adviseren om richting stad tussen de Utrechtse Brug en de Hoop te roeien of de Weespertrekvaart op te gaan. Niet alleen vanwege het lichamelijk letsel dat je op kan lopen, maar ook om onze vloot te beschermen. Mocht je je echt niet kunnen inhouden om richting Ouderkerk te gaan, houd dan rekening met het volgende:

• Er is waarschijnlijk grote drukte met roeiboten en pleziervaarten
• Er kan stremming zijn bij en langs de wedstrijdbaan waardoor je moet wachten.
• Ga je roeien: bestudeer dan de kaart van de wedstrijdbaan vooraf goed. Deze vind je via deze link: Wedstrijdbaan Skøll Cup,
• De wedstrijdbaan ligt tegen de roeirichting in. Je kunt de oproeibaan gebruiken om langs de wedstrijd richting Ouderkerk te roeien. Terug kan op aangeven van de jury in de wedstrijdbaan geroeid worden.
• Juryleden en motorboten zullen langs de wedstrijdbaan aanwezig zijn om alles letterlijk in goede banen te leiden. Volg aanwijzingen van de wedstrijdorganisatie op.

Verkeersstremming en Parkeerverbod:

Dit weekend zal tijdens de Skøll Cup de Jan Vroegopsingel op zaterdag en zondag overdag gestremd zijn voor doorgaand verkeer. Ook zal er dit weekend van vrijdag 8:00 t/m zondag 20:00 een algeheel parkeerverbod van kracht zijn op zowel Willem III als op de Jan Vroegopsingel van de Utrechtsebrug t/m de Volkstuinen. Het parkeerterein bij Willem III is dit weekend afgesloten. Kom zoveel mogelijk op de Fiets of met het OV. Parkeren kun je het beste doen aan de Joan Muyskenweg.

Skøll Cup gebruikt Willem III vlotten

De Skøll Cup zal gebruik maken van de vlotten op Willem. Er zullen vlotcoordinatoren aanwezig zijn om alles in goeie banen te leiden. Houd rekening met drukte op de vlotten en heb geduld en begrip voor elkaar.

Serious disruption on the Amstel due to Skøll Cup

On Saturday, April 25th and Sunday, April 26th (which is this coming weekend!), rowing for the Skøll Cup will take place on the Amstel. This is a major competition comparable in terms of crowds to the Head of the River and the Heineken Rowing Quadruple. Normally, this race is held at the Bosbaan, but due to renovations for the World Championships Rowing the event is being moved to the Amstel for this one-off occasion. The start is at Het Kalfje and the finish is in front of Skøll.

The Skøll Cup races will run from 9:00 AM to approximately 5:30 PM. This means serious disruption between the Utrechtsebrug and Het Kalfje, partly because the races are being held against the direction of rowing. There is no rowing ban, but the board ADVISES AGAINST rowing towards Ouderkerk this weekend. There is one rowing lane available that must be shared with all rowers and pleasure craft. Consider whether you are truly skilled and fast enough to row in such conditions. We assume that you can assess for yourself whether you have enough steering and rowing experience to navigate through heavy traffic amidst competitive rowers and pleasure boats. We advise rowing towards the city between the Utrechtse Brug and De Hoop, or entering the Weespertrekvaart. This is not only due to the physical injury you may sustain, but also to protect our fleet.

Should you really be unable to resist heading towards Ouderkerk, please take the following into account:

• There will likely be heavy traffic with rowing boats and pleasure vessels.
• There may be congestion at and along the race course causing you to wait.
• If you are going to row: study the race course map carefully beforehand. You can find it via this link: Skøll Cup Race Course.
• The race course is oriented against the direction of rowing. You can use the warm-up lane to row past the race towards Ouderkerk. On the return journey, you may row in the race course at the signal of the jury.
• Judges and motorboats will be present along the race course to literally keep everything running smoothly. Follow instructions from the race organizers.

Traffic Closure and Parking Ban:

This weekend, during the Skøll Cup, the Jan Vroegopsingel will be closed to through traffic during the day on Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, a general parking ban will be in effect this weekend from Friday 8:00 AM to Sunday 8:00 PM on both Willem III and the Jan Vroegopsingel from the Utrechtsebrug to the Volkstuinen. The parking lot at Willem III will be closed this weekend. Come by bicycle or public transport as much as possible. The best place to park is on the Joan Muyskenweg.

Skøll Cup will use Willem III pontoons

The Skøll Cup will make use of the pontoons at Willem III. Pontoon coordinators will be present to ensure everything runs smoothly. Therefore, please be prepared for crowds on the pontoons and show patience and understanding towards one another.
