Founded in 1882, Willem III is one of the oldest and largest rowing clubs in the Netherlands. You find us on the banks of the river Amstel, with immediate access to the rural stretch of water to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel and beyond, as well as to the urban landscapes of the city of Amsterdam. For further location and contact details, please refer to the Contact page.
The joy of rowing for everyone as outdoor exercise and social activity is our top priority. If you would like to visit us or become a member, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will make an appointment with you for a tour and all explanations about Willem III. After the tour you can register.
For any other membership related matters, please contact email@example.com.
What do we offer our members?
Willem III is home to an impressive fleet of around two hundred rowing boats, ranging from fine single scull to Olympic eight and from restored antique wooden sculler to the latest Empacher and Filippi. We have a state of the art and fully equipped gym, available to all members.
All facilities are open for use on weekdays from 7 AM to 10 PM and on the weekend and on public holidays from 8 AM to 10 PM.
Rowing lessons are organized at every level and for all age groups, including para-rowing, and are included in the membership fee.
Rowing lessons are organized throughout the year – weather permitting – at different times during the week and weekends.
A wide range of activities is open to members, such as competitive and recreational rowing, tour rowing, and indoor/outdoor training sessions to keep you fit throughout the winter.
Willem III undoubtedly offers the best clubroom and terrace in town, with amazing views across the river Amstel and the surrounding area.
Our bar is open at weekends, on Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM.
On Wednesday we have a club evening. Our bar is open from 6 to 11 PM and meals are served at a moderate price. In summer (May – September) the bar is often open on Friday evening as well.
A membership runs per full calendar year, with an automatic annual renewal in January. The amount consists of several components – see below overview. When you join our club after 1 January, obviously fees are prorated. Amounts owed are always settled by direct debit. The membership fees for the following year are published in our magazine De Landtong in October and on the website.
If you want to terminate your membership, you have to give notice by email before 1 November. You can send the email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

New members and the class system (instruction)
All members of Willem III have a class assigned to them, following their rowing skills. Classes range from class 1 – basic rowing skills – to class 5 A/B representing accomplished rowing in fine single scull/coxless pair. You can only take a boat out that matches your class.
For new members there are 2 options:
Those without any rowing experience begin with no class at all. You can start rowing lessons as soon as there is a place available, which is usually within a few weeks after registering. You become a member and start paying as soon as we have added you to one of the instruction groups.
New members with rowing experience will be assessed to determine the level of their rowing skills and class. When necessary you can take lessons until you reach at least class 3. With class 3 under your belt, you can take a (matching) boat out by yourself.
For any questions regarding rowing lessons and assessments, please contact:
email@example.com (little to no rowing experience)

Practically all activities at Willem III are in the hands of volunteers. Without volunteers, we could not exist and do all the things that we do. Volunteering is useful to the club as a whole and its members, but also extremely rewarding in itself. it’s an ideal way to meet other people and get settled into the club.
